The Grove U8 Netball vs Ashfold School

The long trek over to Ashfold on a bitterly cold afternoon but the U8 girls were all very excited for their first netball fixture of the season. We had time for a good warm-up which settled the girls and then we began the first quarter. It was all a bit frantic to begin with and it took at least until half-time before the girls developed a better understanding of their positions and, particularly who they were marking. Ashfold had some very competent shooters and although the game was very competitive between the two teams mid-court, when GA and GS had opportunities to score they did. Unfortunately, the times that we managed to get the ball to our shooters, the girls rushed and didn’t capitalise on the chances. At half-time we were 2 goals down and after a good team talk the third quarter saw a real improvement in how girls found space and they were trying really hard to stay with their player when marking. It was only in the last quarter that the girls lost a little focus again and conceded a goal in the last few minutes. A good start to the season. Well done.
